Artisan jewelry, formally defined as artistic jewelry that is not only made with precious metals and gems, but with an additional distributed use of other forms of materials. In the case that a jewelry artist would use recycled materials, it could be stated that the concept of artisan jewelry surely exists.
Using recycled materials is often a difficult task, as few recycled materials can, in fact, take the place of precious metals and/or gemstones. So with this being said, what is available for use in place of these materials? Some use recycled brass and copper, while others may turn to plastic and/or acrylic pieces. Individuals or companies that recycle goods, and produce materials for artists to create with, are turning the world's junk into an artists's creative outlet.
